Are the keepsake items safe for children?

All memory bears, quilts and cushions are handmade and intended for collection purposes only and are not intended for children under 14 years of age. While not toys, the Cuddly Bears are designed and made to be handled with care.  
 
Due to the unique and individual nature of every keepsake, the source of the materials (YOUR special item(s) of clothing) and small parts they cannot be CE approved in accordance with the Safety of Toys directive and should be kept out of reach of babies and small children.

Are any materials or fabrics unsuitable ?

Knitted or crocheted items such as blankets or jumpers are unsuitable due to the large weave of the fabric.  If you are uncertain, please contact me to discuss.

Question 3

Are the items washable?

Accepted Answer

This is generally determined by the source material, but most items can be cleaned/washed as follows:
 
Bears: Sponge clean carefully; not getting it too wet and let it air dry naturally.
 
Cushions: Spot clean only, or if it has a removable cover (excluding ties), machine washable at 30 degrees and dry flat. Do not tumble dry.
 
Quilts: Gentle machine wash at 30 degrees and dry flat. Do not tumble dry.
 
Weighted Lap Pads and Throws: Gentle machine wash in a laundry bag, or hand wash and dry flat. Do not tumble dry.

Question 4

Can I warm a weighted lap pad or throw in a microwave/oven or over a radiator?

Accepted Answer

No.  These products are not suitable for heating.  The fabric is not fire retardant.

Question 5

What happens to unused items (source garments)?

Accepted Answer

I will return any unused garments with the item on completion, unless you request that I do not return them.  In this case the items will be donated to a local charity.  The remains of any clothing items that have been used in the manufacture of the keepsake will be disposed of unless you ask that I return them with the finished item.

Question 6

How long does it take to receive my memory keepsake?

Accepted Answer

Bears and cushions usually 4 to 6 weeks from receipt of source materials and cleared payment.
 
Quilts from 10 to 12 weeks - see the product page for more details. 
 
Lap pads and throws usually 4 to 6 weeks from receipt of payment.
 
I only start work on the items after a hold period of 2 weeks to allow you time to cancel or modify your order.

Question 7

What if I change my mind?

I will start working on the item 14 days (cooling off period) after receipt of the source material and payment.  You may cancel your order by sending me an email within this period. I will return the items and refund you the full amount paid less the cost of return postage.

What happens if my memory keepsake breaks?

While I take every care in making the items, as these are hand made from used material, while unlikely it is possible that something may break.  If this happens please contact me via email and I will be happy to resolve the problem.

Do you take orders from outside the UK?

At the moment I can only accept orders from within the UK.

Can you recommended a fabric pen?

Accepted Answer

I have found that the edding 8040 Laundry Marker works rather well for the signature quilts.  It is fine enough for people to be able to write with it on the fabric and it dries quickly and doesn't run.  It comes in black and red options.

Can I send you something special to include inside my memory keepsake?

Accepted Answer

Yes.  I'm happy to incorporate a special item in the design.  Please ensure that you add the request at the time of ordering.

Are the memory keepsakes CE approved?

Due to the unique and individual nature of every keepsake, the source of the materials (YOUR special item(s) of clothing) and small parts they cannot be CE approved in accordance with the Safety of Toys directive and should be kept out of reach of babies and small children.
The items are not fire retardant, so please keep them away from fires and high temperatures.

Can I make suggestions or specific requests regarding the design of my memory keepsake?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Please include the request at time of ordering, and feel free to email me to discuss.  For example, if you wish for a particular item of clothing to be used in a specific way (perhaps as the head of a bear, for example) please include this detail in the special request when ordering.  Please also pin a note to the specific item when you send it to me.
